Jonathan Barnbrook

'Designing for social change' Monograph design

A course project revolving around research conducted into an influential typographer. The task was to produce a solely typographic cover and title page for a monograph based on the individual and their style. Focusing on the designs of Jonathan Barnbrook, I was inspired by colour schemes and principles derived from his bold, experimental work. All elements were created using letters or special characters from different styles of the Mason and Priori typefaces. The final result aimed to reflect Barnbrooks typographic ‘voice’, his activism and political stance on design -

“When you are a graphic designer you are at the centre of putting out propaganda for somebody and it seems impossible not to question this.”
